Tonight I was interviewed on Danish National TV2 about my film career in LA. So, if you fancy Danish, please be my guest and click on this link to see the sequence. Maybe you’ll learn a phrase or two in Danish ….
I try to catch up on as much Danish culture as possible be it music, film and fashion. I’m always curious ot see what the new and the old are up to. I’m especially interested in the film industry since I moved to Los Angeles to make films. It’s 2 years ago now. Before that I was in NYC.
I’ve never really felt at home in Denmark. I hate Danish food, I detest the weather and loath the ‘jantelov’, which in my point of view has kept aspiring spirits down through decades. And now, with the right wing government that has gone even more right wing since i left the nest Denmark has gone from an idealistic Oasis to a ‘nice’, predictable, self centered and very expensive country with, in my opinion, a really sad future if we do not vote differently next time. What happened to idealism? What happened to long term thinking?
Anyways… I’m so happy to state, that I’m extremely proud to be Danish when it comes to film and filmmakers. Especially when I watched this film ‘Applause’. I first heard about it a year ago when I met the producer Mikael Rieks at a meeting with the production company Koncern Film&TV in Copenhagen. I wanted to share a script with him and he told me about his new film, which was about to go into festivals.
Right after our meeting he got so busy traveling because Applause won award upon award. And I can see why. The female lead Paprika Steen is an amazing actress, but with this film she cements her star status firmly and internationally. Her performance is stellar in an even better written story. And the styling and scenography is beautiful. OMG! I totally missed Copenhagen, good taste and the old beautiful apartments in my hometown. That’s peobably the first time I felt like that in 5 years. hmmm….. anyways, please take a peak for your self…
This song is so funny. It reminds me of Denmark and all the good, the bad, the blood, sweat and tears I left on the banks in the neck of my woods. And being back in Copenhagen this morning it only makes sense to post it…
God, I’m jetlagged and tired after a kick-ass trip to NYC. Wow! Today is time to regroup and spend some quality time with my family…
The wind is definitely blowing changes my way…. And I’m surprised that it surprises me. The feeling of ‘Aha’ should be so familiar by now. Hence, it isn’t. And I guess that is the nature of the unenlightened…
One thought came to my mind today as I was driving home from a meeting in Santa Monica; I think it’s interesting how it seems that you have to be open to them – the changes – before they will make a proper appearance before you. Like, you have to get on the same page with the changes and once you get there you realize they have been waiting for you to catch up for a while. Suddenly, they sit there and stare you right in the eyes with a provoking smirk. Like a change is the most obvious and simple solution to everything. And hands down – it is.
Am I making any sense? Maybe not…. However, the changes I’m talking about today is not revolutionary over night happening out of this world changes, but small yet solid changes that leads you on to new pastures.
Getting back to my meeting in Santa Monica; I had a long and super interesting conversation with a truly inspiring man today, who I’m going to start to work with. I can’t really call him an acting coach, because he is not. He is much more. So I will call him a mentor, a teacher or maybe a friend. We will see what this connection brings. But for now I’m pretty excited. We start this Friday and I already have a ton of material that we both brought to the table.
So what is the change about you may ask? Well, one of the reasons that I’m so excited about this new friend is, that he pretty much told me what my gut feeling has been telling me for a long time about my acting, my path and sense of direction. I don’t really want to go into details other than I was happy to find an answer to my question.
From there I was off to a birthday party and then I finally watched Sex & The City 2. Yes! I know it’s embarrassing that a New York devotee as yours truly hasn’t reconnected with Carrie yet. Sorry, but I was in Nicaragua when the SATC frenzy hit town. And now after having watched it….
Ha ha… What can I say? That film is any girl’s wet dream. Abundance of fashion, exotic locations and extremely out of this world sexy men. ‘Australian Rugby team’ Excuse me…!!!!!!!????? ha ha
And now we are touching upon the subject: Did any of You pay attention how much more skin the men were showing compared to the ladies in this film? Talk about male objectification. The only other Blockbuster I remember that happening in is ‘Troy’, where brad Pitt is more ribbed and more naked than ever. I don’t even remember if this was pre-Angelina. Now he has a lot of facial hair and a lot of kids. (Just kidding …)
Anyhow, tonight the sun sets on an all in all really perfect day in LA. Tomorrow I have an audition for starters, then a meeting with an Italian film director who wants to talk about his next movie with me. Then another meeting in Brentwood, then rehearsals for Friday’s acting ‘thing’ and then Thursday Sessions at Bardot. Hell yeah! I like the changes that the winds are blowing my way….
So last night I attended the screening/premiere of a movie called Positive I did last year here in LA with Brazilian director Mario Amadeu. It was so nice to see the cast and the crew again. I can’t wait to work together with Mario again on future projects
Here’s a scene from the movie and a couple of pics from last night:
I recently discovered this video artist slash photographer Via Karlo. I don’t know… think he has something about him. I like this little video right here from SONY.
Here is a compilation of me at work. Or let me rephrase that: This is the more glamorous side of my work. At least it looks glamorous.
But when I’m not in front of the camera in makeup, sporting the best designers or working behind the camera shooting fabulous people and street trends there is the endless preparation of studying lines, auditioning, meetings, discussing budgets, trying to get enough sleep, eating healthy and staying sane in LA LA LAND. The later probably being the hardest part…
…And you have no idea how many trend reports and fashion articles I have written in my man’s boxers and a wife beater, no makeup, with pimples and hair in a simple pony tail. A bad visual. I know. Sorry for breaking the illusion .
Anyways, here we go:
Me shooting wearing – you will not believe it Object, Balenciaga and vintage
Going low low low for the perfect shot..
Every girl needs a break. Especially when my sweet sisters have sent me my favorite candies from Copenhagen – yay!!! love love love
My purse has a mirror connected in a leather string. Another reason to adore Balenciaga. This is shot before a fashion show.
Designer takes a bow…
Another fashion show and only one eye half ready.. what the hell is going on with the hair…??
waiting time before call time…
Red Carpet
If you have to do silk and hot pink at the same time. Well, then Hollywood is a good spot to pick. Do I channel a tad of 80’s Dynasty… ? Either way I love this designer! Her name is Lilia. Look out for her!
